Net metering is a program that credits solar energy users for the electricity they send back to the grid.
Think of it as the energy you create rolls over!
Does my Power Company Offer Net Metering?
Net metering is offered in most states. To ensure that you are eligible for net metering, check with your current power company or energy consultant.
Tip: Most rate plans that include net metering are called “solar buyback plans.”
What is 1:1 Net Metering?
1:1 Net Metering is when your power company credits you for the excess energy sent back to the grid at the same rate you pay. For example, suppose your current rate for electricity is $0.20/kWh (kilowatt hour). Your power company will credit you $0.20/kWh for the excess energy sent back to the grid.
1:1 Net Metering is the best option for solar customers and ensures a higher return on investment.
Will I be able to Make Money from Net Metering?
Don’t rely on your power company sending you a large monthly check. In most cases, the credits you build up over time will roll over in future months.
